Pillar 4: Environmental Resilience

Resilient Communities. A Sustainable Future.

According to the World Meteorological Organization's State of the Climate in Africa 2025 report, extreme weather and climate-related events affected at least 13 million people and caused over 3,000 deaths across Africa in 2025.

The Climate Reality

Climate change is already changing lives.

This is not a distant, abstract threat. It is happening now, in the same communities where Movit Foundation works.

Drought alone affected 8.5 million people in Ethiopia during a five-month period, with the Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission reporting that affected populations urgently need food assistance.

The WMO report also reveals that Africa is warming faster than the global average, the continent's glaciers have lost more than 90% of their area since the late 19th century, and sea levels along African coasts are rising faster than the global mean.

Perhaps most alarming, only 40% of African countries have multi-hazard early warning systems, a critical gap in the infrastructure needed to save lives and livelihoods.

When a mother cannot feed her child because the rains failed, when a girl drops out of school because her family must migrate in search of water, climate change becomes a direct assault on every other pillar of our work.

ACT

Environmental resilience protects every other pillar.

Movit Foundation pursues environmental resilience because we cannot build healthy, educated, gender-just communities on a dying continent. We are not waiting for global agreements to save us. We are planting the change, one tree, one community, one adaptation at a time, because African communities must drive the change that secures their own future.
